About School Food Matters

School Food Matters believes that school food can unlock a happier, healthier, more sustainable future for every child. School isn’t just where children eat, it’s where habits are formed, life skills are developed, and new experiences are shared. It is the perfect place to nurture a positive relationship with food that lasts a lifetime.

Through its Nourish programme, School Food Matters has created lasting change by embedding a whole school approach to food, engaging parents and carers, school leaders, children and young people. In 2025, the charity’s flagship food education programme Young Marketeers reached 3,600 children across 125 schools in 16 towns and cities across England.

What we deliver

Nourish is School Food Matters’ evidence-based, whole school food transformation programme, supporting schools to create a food environment that puts children and young people’s nutrition first. Through the School Food Project, schools will be supported by the Nourish team to develop their own school food action plan and policy, covering food throughout the school day, while fostering a positive food culture and integrating food education.

Young Marketeers is School Food Matters’ hands-on food education programme. Children learn about the local and environmental impacts of food systems by growing their own vegetables, engaging in food marketing and selling their own produce to raise money for charity at a community market. During the programme, children participate in practical sessions with gardeners, chefs and programme leads.
