Acceptable Use Policy

What this policy covers

This policy sets out the standards that apply when you: upload, share, or create any content on our site, for example, in forum discussions or community areas, when you contact other users through the site, link to our site, or use any other interactive feature of the site.

In this policy, we refer to everything you upload, post, or create as your content.

You must comply with this policy in both letter and spirit. We’ll decide, acting reasonably, whether any content or conduct breaches it.

You should read this alongside our Website Terms of Use and Privacy Policy, which also apply to your use of the site.

General rules

You must not use the site: 

  • in any way that is unlawful or fraudulent, or has that effect 
  • to harm or attempt to harm anyone, particularly a child
  • to bully, insult, intimidate, or humiliate any person
  • to send spam or any other unsolicited or unauthorised promotional material
  • to upload or transmit malicious code – including viruses, trojans, worms, spyware, adware, or keystroke loggers – or anything else designed to disrupt or damage systems or software 
  • to attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the site or to any other user’s account 
  • to promote or campaign for any political party or candidate

Content standards

Any content you post or upload must: 

  • be accurate where it states facts
  • reflect genuinely held opinions
  • where it contains food safety, allergen, or nutritional information, be accurate and verified – do not share food safety or allergen information you know to be incorrect 
  • any review or recommendation must be genuine and must disclose any incentive you have received 
  • comply with the law in England and Wales and in any country from where you post it

Prohibited content

Your content must not: 

  • make false statements about a person or organisation that could damage their reputation (defamation)
  • be obscene, offensive, hateful, or inflammatory 
  • infringe anyone else’s intellectual property rights 
  • include sexually explicit video content or any video content not appropriate for general adult audiences 
  • include material that might impair the physical, mental, or moral development of anyone under 18; 
  • be likely to deceive anyone 
  • breach any legal duty owed to another person (such as a contractual duty or a duty of confidence)
  • be threatening, or invade another person’s privacy in a way that causes annoyance, inconvenience, or anxiety
  • be likely to harass, upset, embarrass, alarm, or annoy any person
  • impersonate any person, or misrepresent your identity or affiliation with any person or organisation 
  • give the impression that it comes from us or from The School Food Project, if it does not
  • advocate, promote, or incite any unlawful or criminal act, including copyright infringement or computer misuse
  • contain any statement likely to be understood as encouragement or inducement to commit, prepare, or instigate acts of terrorism 
  • be pornographic
  • Contain or promote any illegal content or activity

Illegal content

You must not use the site for, or in connection with, any of the following: 

  • terrorism
  • child sexual exploitation or abuse – including grooming and child sexual abuse material 
  • hate offences
  • harassment, stalking, making threats, or abuse
  • controlling or coercive behaviour
  • intimate image abuse (sharing someone’s private sexual images without their consent)
  • extreme pornography
  • sexual exploitation of adults
  • human trafficking or unlawful immigration
  • fraud and financial offences
  • money laundering or handling proceeds of crime
  • drugs or psychoactive substance offences
  • firearms, knives, or other weapons offences
  • encouraging or assisting suicide
  • foreign interference in UK democratic processes
  • animal cruelty.

ContenT harmful to children

Our site is for adults only. The following content is prohibited in any case, because of the harm it could cause: 

  • pornographic content
  • content that encourages, promotes, or provides instructions for suicide or deliberate self-harm
  • content that encourages, promotes, or provides instructions for an eating disorder or associated behaviours

You must also not upload, post, or create content that: 

  • is abusive and targets any of the following characteristics: race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, disability, or gender reassignment
  • incites hatred against people based on race, religion, sex or sexual orientation, disability, or gender reassignment 
  • encourages, promotes, or provides instructions for an act of serious violence against any person; 
  • constitutes bullying
  • depicts real or realistic serious violence or injury in graphic detail (whether against a person, animal, or fictional creature)
  • encourages or promotes a challenge or stunt that is highly likely to result in serious injury to the participant or anyone else 
  • encourages someone to self-administer a physically harmful substance, or a substance in a quantity that would be physically harmful

Safeguarding

Our site is used by people who work in and around schools. You must not: 

  • share personal information about any individual child, including their name, school, year group, or any other details that could identify them
  • use the site to contact or arrange contact with any child outside normal school safeguarding processes
  • post content that could be used to harm or exploit any child

If you work in a school or similar setting, you must use this site in a way that is consistent with your employer’s safeguarding policy and with Keeping Children Safe in Education (or equivalent statutory guidance).

Harmful or threatening communications

You must not upload, post, create, share, or cause to be shared: 

  • a grossly offensive, indecent, obscene, or menacing message intended to cause offence, menace, distress, or anxiety
  • a false message that you know to be false, intended to cause real harm to those likely to read it, and with no reasonable excuse
  • a message threatening death or serious harm where you intend – or do not care whether the recipient fears the threat will be carried out
  • flashing images where it is reasonably foreseeable that a person with epilepsy will see them and you intend that person to suffer harm
  • content intended to encourage serious self-harm
  • an unsolicited sexual image (including a manufactured intimate image or deepfake) intended to cause alarm, distress, or humiliation, or sent for the purpose of sexual gratification not caring whether it causes those effects
  • a sexually explicit deepfake

How we enforce this policy

We may remove any content that we consider breaches this policy, without notice to you. In serious or repeated cases, we may suspend or close your account. Where a breach is not serious, we will usually warn you before taking further action. If we remove your content or restrict your account, you may contact us at [email protected] to ask us to review our decision. We may also report illegal content to the relevant law enforcement authorities and share your details with them where we are required or permitted to do so.
